Platythyrea parallela

Platythyrea parallela is an uncommon ant. It is one of five species in Australia and about 40 species globally, some of which are known to be specialist termite predators. P. parallela is a cospopolitan species, stretching from Australia, through SE Asia and as far east as northern India. It is in the subfamily Ponerinae and, like most of its ponerine cousins, has a very effective sting.
