New web platform

Hi everyone - the web platform has been upgraded across all NatureMapr projects - you may need to reset your bookmark. A new smartphone Android app is available and an updated iPhone app is ready for download from the App Stores. Meanwhile, as we expect some issues with the new website, please let us know by submitting a Technical Support request (under About).

Hi, I noticed when reporting location on the map there seems to be still a different colour overlay which makes it difficult to see details on the map. I’m using iPad. Kurt

Hi - thanks for all your hard work on this. I agree with Kurt - I found the colour overlay difficult to negotiate. Also, when I posted a caterpillar, there were three 'required' fields - size, what the insect was associated with, and any other insects it was interacting with. When I'm out walking, I have no idea of what the plants are, only that this looks like an interesting creature. I got through by writing nil. I'm not sure how to submit a support request?

Hi Aaron, thanks for all the work you guys do. I haven't had a good look at the new site yet as I was waiting till the changeover was complete to add any new sightings. However, the links to the Top Contributors and the Top Moderators don't work.
AlisonMilton wrote:

Just checking the admin side of things. While I don't often flag sightings I note that I can no longer view the sightings that I have flagged as 'Like'.

I can't see the 'bar' that allowed selection of plants etc and the subsets. I used that for browsing.

System seems much slower to respond. As a moths moderator I no longer seem to receive any alerts. Under the modified system yesterday I did receive alerts in the new format, but I no longer do.(12.01 pm Friday 10/4). I do receive messages. There are several unidentified moths in on the Únidentified' page, but I have to go there to deal with them.
ibaird wrote:

Hovering with my cursor over the énvelope' icon tells me I have '3 alerts' and '3 messages', but a subsequent click of the mouse cursor only reveals a window with the messages, I can't seem to access the 3 moderator alerts - unless there's a trick to it (12:18 pm Friday 10/4).

Hi, I find it very annoying that for insects the plant it was feeding on and interaction with other insects are now both required fields. For a large percentage of my sightings the insects are either on the ground or the walls of my house, and I rarely know the name of the plants when they are on a plant or grass. It is even rarer that there is any interaction with other insects. Also badly worded for a compulsory field. It doesn't say Was there any interaction with other insects and if so, what? Is this just for web notifications. Looking at some other sightings these fields don't seem to have been completed when reporting via Mobile app (seems 99% of sightings are by Mobile). My system is also running much slower but I thought it was just my computer.
Mike wrote:

I had many alerts dating back a long time so I cleared them. Now I have '2 alerts' but when I try to see them I get a Moderator alerts page telling me I have no alerts.
Bron wrote:

Thanks for your work Aaron, Like others I'm finding everything is slower, although that might be because over Easter people will be using computers more?? and like Alison I mostly don't know the plant the animal is on, so the content of these boxes will seldom be informative but slow the process further.

Hi Aaron, thanks for all your work. I think the list of sightings for Mt Ainslie isn't in chronological order anymore but seems to be semi-alphabetical. I found it more convenient to see the latest sightings at the top of the list after putting Mt Ainslie in the "quick search" field.

Hi Aaron. Super fast! How do you define images now? After identifying a spider (Nephila plumipes) the main heading says Unidentified Insect. Also the Confirm option didn’t come up initially, only Suggest. Using Safari on iPad. I note that the heading is OK now.

Hi Aaron, thanks for all the effort you are putting in love how good the images look now. Agree with those above on the map colour overlay and having to put the extra info in for insects for reasons like those above. I find it more difficult to read the location lists and is it possible to put them in alphabetical order as it would make it easier to find a particular location when looking for it. Thanks again for all you are doing all your efforts are appreciated.

Hi ibaird, how is the system speed today? We sped it up yesterday so hopefully you should notice it. We also made a number of fixes to when alerts are sent and received. Are you getting them now? Cheers Aaron.
AaronClausen wrote:
   11 Apr 2020
Hi ibaird, you need to select which type of alerts you want to click on. E.g. inside the dropdown it will say something like "3 moderator alerts", then you need to click on the "3 moderator alerts" to see those alerts. Due to the system generating so many alerts now (hundreds of thousands), we have had to split them up into more granular pages like that in order to be manageable. Cheers Aaron.

Hi Aaron, still can't edit. I can get into the sighting but get the following when trying to update. An unhandled exception occurred while processing the request.
ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. (Parameter 's')
System.DateTime.Parse(string s)

Also, the message at the bottom now says Report this sighting instead of Update, plus there is no Cancel if you change your mind-not sure if there was one before. Again, not sure if this was the case before but I don't see the comments or my suggestion on species. I also got the same error as Nicholas above last time I tried to add a new sighting. Haven't tried this morning yet. Thanks. Glad you got a chance to get out for a while.

Hi Aaron, Further to my last message - the problem is I didn't have GPS available in sightings, so add coordinates. The program now doesn't accept them, reverting instead to the suggested coordinates. This might have initiated the "Sighting is outside project boundaries!" response.

Hi Aaron, my edit sighting function is also not working. It takes me into the sighting, but minus a lot of the information, eg location, and at the bottom is the "report sighting" button so I am afraid to edit and click "report sighting" in case all of the existing information (ie the comments and id suggestions and confirmation) is lost. So similar to Alison's but I do not get an Unhandled exception error.

Hi Marthijn, so are these your own uploaded sightings and you don't receive an alert whenever a moderator confirms one of your sightings? Cheers Aaron

Hi Aaron - Superman, Wow thanks for the all the hard work you have been doing, amazing. Sorry but just a few probs still not getting email alerts for sighting confirmations. In the “Location Information” is it possible please to put the “Polygons” and the “Places” in alphabetical order as it is very difficult to pick out just one location where there are many listed for a species. Another minor point our counts are not 'ticking over’. Our Profile page says has 4233 on our profile page but only 4201 on the Top Contributor page. No hurry, thanks again for all you are doing and listening and being everyone’s number one problem solver. cheers Deb and Rod

Hi Flagged Sighting friends (Alison, Christine, Illilanga), you will now notice a new "my flagged sightings" option in the dropdown menu underneath your username. Cheers Aaron.

Hi, most of my uploads during May are not appearing on the site even though it says the upload has been successful at the time. I have had only one that has actually succeeded and it was an .MP3. I am uploading from a PC to the website, not through an app. I have tried uploading some of them three times! I submitted a request for tech support last week but haven't had a response.
