Confirming certainly this genus.
I do not know, by first hand on site experiences, all of these ~15 spp. in NSW : https://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/NSWfl.pl?page=nswfl&lvl=gn&name=Oenothera
These two photographs do not show enough evidences to use my 35 years of botanical skills to botanically key this out to species.
Therefore a confirmation of a species identification for this sighting, IMHO depends on,
preferably more photographs
or notes information getting provided by the original sighter @JohnGiacon ;
or somebody who knows all the ~15 species in NSW and if any more potential candidate spp. exist in Au : https://keybase.rbg.vic.gov.au/keys/show/532 , who thus can demonstrably prove with evidences that this plant, in terms of the limited information of it shown in these two photographs, can not identify to any more than a single species.
(False positive identifications are not good enough for science, and not expert verified.) .
